Scott moved for two weeks, the crew from Malta in the countryside between Siena and Pienza, San Quirico. The main locations were: the cottage Terrapillea a mile from Pienza, next to the Church of Corsignano that houses a farm, and farm house in front of the Belvedere at the top of the knoll near San Quirico and the church of Our Lady of Life Leta (now a residence in Rome for the occasion)

The cypresses
to spread the Etruscans were the cypress and should be given a funeral, then taken over by the Romans. His austere form and its longevity, however, have made it a symbol of life. Around Castellina in Chianti, famous Etruscan town, opens a landscape of cypresses alternating with cultivated land. In the area you can take a stroll in the natural forest of St. Agnes, by the name of the fortified church, where trees stand defined by Carducci "tall and honest."

Special Chianti are the churches, the earliest examples of medieval public places, around which stood little churches and chapels, meeting places for Sunday celebrations. Tuscany: a land of memories and mystery
Passeggiando fuori dagli itinerari consueti in Toscana ogni due passi si scopre una meraviglia: querce che rasentano il cielo con i rami, ruscelli che cantano giù per il pendio ombroso, acqua chiara e fresca come l'argento vivo.
Stradine, vecchie mulattiere battute di sassi, antichi borghi , chiese , torri in the silence of things seem to be buried away in the shadow of memories: those who venture into these landscapes is struck by a scene of rare beauty. It seems that on this earth is under a shadow full of medieval mystery. From a cliff appears the sudden ruin of a castle, ivy-covered walls, arched eye still stands the test of time and staring at you in the sky polished.
While the eye is immersed in the spectacle of the horizon, ranging from the vague to the mountains of the Chianti hills of Siena slender, reddish, slowly dips into the past and repopulate the harshness of the place of ghosts. From the dense bush suddenly appears a farmhouse. The roof collapsed, but a new inhabitant has made its entry: an oak stands imperiously while echoing inside and outside the birds chirping like a chorus of welcome.
For the slopes of the valleys, olive trees formed as a white wreath. The cypress bring you the sun and standing against a red church bell from the baby is on the wing in the air with its bell dangling arch of stone, that nobody sees but always sounds at all hours.

What Does Maxine Say About Birthdays
areas of the Chianti Classico DOC
When we talk about Chianti a bit 'all over the world think of the wine. Not without reason, we would say, given that Chianti is without doubt one of the best known and appreciated red wines Italian, which is also the merit of having been able to keep the prestige of our wine on the main consumer markets abroad. As he wrote
A. Marshals, in fact, "I'm sure more than six centuries it [the Chianti] and 'known and respected in our country, three hundred years later crossed the border into the country, and' known and sought after, first in England, then in almost all states of the world where there are real gourmets. Instead, maybe not everyone knows that Chianti is a historical region that lies between the Arno basin, south of Florence, and the dell'Ombrone, north of Siena.
is an area characterized by rolling hills, rich in vineyards, of oak, holm oak, chestnut and olive groves alternating with areas of barren limestone, and dotted with cypress trees that represent those in an unmistakable way the Tuscan landscape.
The most widespread form of population of the Tuscan countryside is the village. The village is situated on the hill and were very small. The element of social cohesion and the building was the religious and often the titular saint of the church gave its name to the people. From peasant property was then passed to the system poderile. Houses for women who are born landowners erected a home for the holidays and for supervising the sharecropper. After the 200, the typical form of medieval houses Construction of the towers will go horizontal, witnessing the transition to a period of less conflict. A look at the well
Chianti like a huge fresco of the Renaissance. Castles, vineyards, meadows, hills, fields, trees, paths, streams, stones are exactly those that have been immortalized by the great Renaissance who drew and painted in mind that landscape. Leonardo himself puts it this way on the beauty of the place: "And therefore I think a lot of happiness to both men arise where there are good wines."
The charm of this area is precisely in such a perfect harmony between its soft slopes, the nature of many colors, and ancient castles and churches secolari.
Secondo alcuni studiosi deriverebbe dal latino clangor “squillo di tromba”, riferito al suono prodotto dallo strumento durante le battute di caccia; per altri il nome potrebbe addirittura derivare dall’etrusco Clante, nome appartenente a certe famiglie etrusche. i Tusci, infatti, localizzarono in the sixth century BC in Etruria (Tuscany), the flowering of the most important events of civilizations and cultures more intense wine. The term
Chianti appears for the first time in documents of the second half of the thirteenth century to denote the modern area of \u200b\u200bthe Chianti Mountains.
There are many legends regarding this land. Among these, what gives rise to the black cock in a single combat medieval, but it is just the historical fact that black cock, symbol of peace reached between the two republics of Tuscany, was from 1300 the military teaches the League of Chianti. However
Chianti is made in connection with the wine in the sixteenth century, when you draw the boundaries of Chianti region.
In September of 1716, was the first legislation to protect the wine and the appellation of origin with a decree of Cosimo III de 'Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany, known then as the "Contract", which can be considered the precursor the current system of the Denomination of Origin. In fact, Cosimo wanted to preserve the area as the Chianti region largely coincides with the current DOC region of Chianti.
In 1932 the territory of the Chianti region is an enclosed area between the cities of Florence and Siena for 304 km2 to 414 km2 with the recognition and defense of the production of Chianti Classico.
A queste varietà si possono aggiungere altre cultivar quali il Prugnolo gentile (Sangiovese grosso) coltivato nel Comune di Montalcino, Ciliegiolo and Montepulciano, the most popular grape in the south east of Tuscany.

A Greve in Chianti, on Easter Monday and the second Sunday of October in Piazza Matteotti is the antique market, flea market dedicated to things of the past, the oldest in the Chianti area, involving around one hundred exhibitors from all over Italy.
The arcades of the square on this occasion have come back to their original purpose: to repair the goods on display.
In May there is the "Flower Festival", and the second weekend of September, the "Wine Festival: festival of the Chianti Classico Consortium in collaboration with the historic name of St. Casciano.

Panzano in September, one week after the wine festival is the exhibition "Vino al Vino" in which companies associated with the agricultural area mountain stands in the central square. The visitor has the opportunity to purchase a glass and sample wines from all these farms.
Other events that are worth a visit are: a mid-September to review the Radda in Chianti "antique holiday" for those interested in antiques and crafts at high level. In mid-June "Antiques in the castle" in S. Casciano Val di Pesa, the "Sunday Market" in Cerbaia always in June, and "Merc'antico" Mercatale Val di Pesa, in April.
Who was interested in the culinary delights of Chianti, we recommend the "Festival of rural culture in Strada in Chianti between April 25 and May 1, in which you can taste typical dishes of Tuscan tradition.
At the same time there is the "Wild Boar Festival" Chiocchio, while the Sunday after March 19 (St. Joseph) hosts the "Festival of pancakes" in the village of Montefioralle. Finally, the last Sunday in October to Lucolena is "Chestnut Festival", with roasted chestnuts and chestnut at will.
Finally we point out the "Biennale of Contemporary Art in Chianti" from October to April, during which you can admire works by important contemporary artists set in wide open spaces and historic places.
In the geometry of castles and villages, but also of the hills and cypress trees, the artists take their inspiration from the four primary elements.

Perhaps not everyone knows about the birth of the emblem of the "Gallo nero", which still represents the wine produced in the region is famous throughout the world. Has vanished in a curious legend. In
it tells a story that shows how at the start of the thirteenth century the rivalry between the two republics of Florence and Siena were particularly keen.
The dispute was due to the decision of what were the boundaries between the two republics, and the solution was found devising a race between two riders, one who was from Florence, Siena and the other to the point where d ' meeting was to represent the limit of two territories.
Departure time was set at the first cock crow.
The Florentines, however, smarter than their rivals, they used the alarm for a black cock fully taken on an empty stomach, and launched its appeal long before dawn, perhaps deceived by the light of a candle lit on purpose.
Thus the Florentine knight, party in advance, covered a greater distance, won in his republic's major rival lands. The place where the two met is still known as the Cross of Fiorentina.
So the poor rooster became the emblem of the Chianti.
Indeed, centuries later, Vasari chose, with Bacchus, to represent this region in a fresco on the ceiling of the Salone dei Cinquecento in Palazzo Vecchio in Florence.
few years ago, Gallo has created an artistic bronze, nearly three meters high, made by prof. Bino Bini, creator of prestigious sculptures whose subject animals than with humans living on earth and who, with their individual instincts, they express a great character and a strong attachment to life.
The Rooster is located in the territory of Greve in Chianti to remember this famous legend of the two brave knights and birth as the emblem of the Gallo Nero

The municipal government in an attempt to justify the unhealthy political patronage operation carried fragile justifications put forward an even more obvious that their heavy responsibilities.
administered so unable to have breached the Stability Pact, causing loss of € 100,000.00 to the municipality government transfers and led the town in a situation of heavy debt.
Despite the dire economic situation in the municipality have undergone a further expenditure of thousands of Euros to pay for the new manager of the office of accountancy.
Outrageous and irresponsible!
And they have the nerve to say that this shameful operation was done for the good of the town of Raffadali!. The administration says that
Raffadali advisers do not receive the attendance, failing to say that this was a decision taken by the entire council and not a responsible choice of the Executive.
The mayor and his administration, given the seriousness of the situation, decide to give up their emoluments!
doing so and at no cost, also appoint all the commissioners investing capable and honest people, willing to commit themselves for the sake of profit Raffadali. People who know how to do better than the current directors who caused the damage economici da essi stessi dichiarati.
The truth is that nothing is being done in the collective interest!
The administration instead of making posters, which we hope will not pay the municipality, it takes action to resolve the many serious emergencies: Mother Church, the General Plan, traffic, cleanliness of the country, water scarcity, need for culture and places of socialization developmental projects, human resources and municipal staff.
This makes a sound administration, not customers looking for low precarious balance of power.
